Ponce, Puerto Rico is a town and at the same time a municipality located in the southern part of Puerto Rico. It was so named by Juan Ponce de León y Loayza, who was a grandson of the famous Spanish conquistador Juan Ponce de León. The city is the second largest in the country and is nicknamed The City Noble, La Perla del Sur and the City of mammon.

Ponce, Puerto Rico has many attractions of water and land. The land features include several elevations, slopes, forests and mountains. The Cerro de Punta is the highest elevation in Puerto Rico. Water features include a multitude of rivers, lakes, ponds, streams and beaches. Ponce rivers form the drainage system of the city.

Ponce, Puerto Rico has plenty to offer tourists. Architects came together to design and give the city a very unique look. Many structures in the city were designed based on the architecture of Barcelona. Architects also established the Teatro La Perla, the museum and residence. The central part of the city of Ponce has most of its tourist attractions. To accommodate the growing number of tourists, several hotels, casinos, resorts and restaurants were built in Ponce.

The city of Ponce is also known for the quality of its museums and monuments. The city’s main square is called Plaza de las Delicias featuring an attractive fountain called the Fountain of the Lions. You can also see the Firehouse, a historic fire station and the Cathedral of Ponce. If you want to skip town, you can go to its observation tower called Castle Serrallés and be amazed by the beauty of the city.
