Originally founded under the name of Real Villa de San Miguel de Heredia in 1578 Tegucigalpa, Honduras’s capital and largest city of Tegucigalpa is not only a center of gold and silver mine, but also the capital of the department of Francisco Morazan . The Choluteca River separates Tegucigalpa and its neighboring city Comayagüela somehow legally regarded as the capital.

Tegucigalpa has a tropical climate and it is very pleasant in its height. The hills and surrounding mountains tend to trap pollution. The city boasts many scenic

areas like the main square of Tegucigalpa, Boulevard Juan Pablo II. But the city is famous for the Basilica of Our Lady of Suyapa and the statue of Jesus Christ located in the City Park. The famous statue is very large and overlooks Tegucigalpa. There are also many sites of great cultural and historical value in the city as the National Identity Museum, the former Presidential Palace (now a museum too), National University of Honduras and the 18th century cathedral.

Families and adventurers will definitely enjoy the National Park La Tigra, Pichaco Hill and the Chiminkee and Science Park, which is also a children’s museum. Tegucigalpa Spanish citizens are very friendly. The city consists mainly of neighborhoods.
