Travel to Guadeloupe

Guadeloupe includes the butterfly-shaped islands that are called Basse-Terre and Grande-Terre and smaller nearby islands of La Desirade, Marie Galante and Les Saintes.

The islands were discovered by Columbus in 1493 and they became a French colony in 1635 and in 1946 was given the status of a French overseas department. As a result, French influence remains in the local flavors and ingredients for meals.

Beaches and jungles of Guadalupe:

Guadalupe islands have beautiful white sand beaches, and also a wildlife-infested jungle and the highest waterfall in the Caribbean. Basse-Terre has a volcanic terrain, Grande-Terre has hills and plains. There are also mountains with lush tropical scenery spectacular and unspoiled.
The islands are a paradise for divers, “described by Jacques Cousteau as one of the top 10 dive sites in the world.

The nightlife in Guadalupe:

Guadeloupe has many restaurants, bars and discos, with displays of local dancing and music. The famous dance of the island is called beguine, where the colorful and ornate Creole costumes are still used. Be sure to try the famous rum drinks like cocktails, punch, rum with lemon sour, and syrup.

Geography of Guadeloupe:

Guadalupe has the largest islands of Basse-Terre and Grande-Terre (separated from Basse-Terre by a narrow channel in the sea) and three smaller islands. Basse-Terre has a rough volcanic relief while Grande-Terre has hills and plains. All the islands have beautiful beaches of white sand or black sand lined with palm trees.
